HOMEWORK: APRIL 18, 2014
Choose one of the inter-active art making apps at http://www.nga.gov/content/ngaweb/education/kids.html and experiment at making an image. Write a reflection about what the app does and what you discovered in the process of making an image. Bring to class and glue in your sketchbook.
Our new unit of inquiry looks at artists across time and place. We started to think about where artists get ideas and how time and place influences how we see the world. We created inkblots and used the splatters to find imagery and think about why see the things we do.
Our Key Assignment presentation was a success! Thanks to everyone who came.
Discovering materials for our "glass" Chihuly inspired sculptures. We settled on glue and liquid watercolors for transparency and delicateness. Grade 4 loved mixing colors to create effects.
Grade 4 made color wheels to help understand our discussion of how light affects how we see color.
Making abstract forms in clay based on our nature collection.
Students learned about the Surrealist movement and examined how surrealist artists were inspired by nature and used negative space. We started making composite "exquisite corpse" creatures in our sketchbooks in preparation for our class book project of collaborative beasties.
Grade 4 did a great job presenting at our school's assembly. Student's recreated parts of the Pixar video "For the Birds" to show how to behave compassionately, our ESLR of the month.
