In our inquiry Incredible Me: Seeing Details and Actions Grade 1 discussed several artworks and looked at how artists tell stories by recording important details. Students compared each others faces to notice the differences we all have, in the shape of our face and features and the things we wear. After learning some techniques to tear paper into purposeful shapes, students created these expressive self portraits using only paper and their hands. Some finishing details helped to tell our unique story to our viewers.
Our finished work! Grade 1completed their torn paper portraits by collaging in small details and embellishments.
Grade 1 has started the year by reviewing some elements of art, especially line and color. These rainbow line paintings helped students learn how to achieve different line types, use painting materials properly and mix primary colors to create secondary colors.
Another exciting year in LS Art is underway! I'm looking forward to all the fabulous projects we'll get
This week is all about learning routines and procedures in the art room before we dive in.
Please join us in celebrating achievement in art at QISS and the 2015 ACAMIS Cultural Convention at the 138 Warehouse Gallery on May 23rd. Tickets are 50 RMB and include delicious refreshments and fun activities for all ages.
The gallery is a little difficult to find so give yourself plenty of time to get there. The address is at 138 Xiang Gong Lu and the nearest intersection is at Hai long Lu and Xiang Gong Lu. If you go towards the water from that intersection, on the right hand side, there is a gate to some apartment buildings with a flag that says 138 on it. Follow the road to the right to find the gallery.
Read here to find out about the exciting projects we've got going on in our final quarter.
Grade is enjoying making insect sculptures based on images of real beetles and a 3D habitat for their creatures using painted painted paper collage.
I just love these expressive texture paintings created by grade 1 students. Students were able to create actual and implied texture using rubbing plates, tissue paper and collage. They are also starting to be able to point out specific elements of art and see how artists use these to create works.
