A big thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate student work and support our Empty Bowls project at our annual art show. Participants enjoyed a humble bowl of soup and took away a piece of the ceramic bowl installation made by students to raise awareness and funds for the UN World Food Programme. If you missed the opening, the show will continue to be exhibited to the public until June 2nd and bowls are still available with donation.

Grade 2 has been learning about portraits in our unit Incredible Me: Expressive Moods and Feelings. Students completed a guided drawing exercise in which they practiced using erasable guidelines for correct proportions and then carefully observed their classmate to achieve a likeness and mood of their subject in their drawings. Grade 2 students have been looking at images of portraits and discussing: what does a portrait do? How is a self-portrait different? How can express emotion through and portrait and draw what we see? Next class, Students will be drawing expressive portraits from observation of their classmate.
Grade 2 has finished creating their expressive self portraits with only scissors and paper. Students focused on how they can show feelings and mood with facial expressions. Student viewed the following artworks and were asked: how do artists show people belong together? |
