The kinder kids are busy learning about symmetry and color mixing with our symmetrical butterflies. Exploring how to create secondary colors from primary colors with finger paint is always a hit with these little ones!
PreK and Kinders love to get down to the business of making painted paper and I'm so glad they do. This simple activity has a lot going for it. Not only do students get the pleasure of exploring mark making, color mixing and creating texture, the resulting paper is excellent collage material for our final project.
Our Day to Day
PreK and Kinders are looking at the time and place of different artworks. We looked at the fascinating imagery in Chinese Ming dynasty "blue vases" and created our own vase using a scraffito technique. The children loved blowing cherry blossom branches using straws. Next we'll add tissue paper cherry blossoms.
Ink Blot paintings! PreK- and Kinder are exploring the question: Where do artists get ideas (and what has time and place got to do with it)? They created an inkblot and used their imaginations to create imagery with the random marks.

Using line, shape and color to create owls for our forest habitat. (Pre) Kinders practiced with a guided drawing exercise to get their shapes in the right places.
Our paper mache jelly's are up!
Every under water habitat needs sparkly fish! Our (pre) k's get busy using texture to create lively fish for our underwater mural.
(Pre) K's try something new... creating sculptural forms in paper mache. We try to make a 3D jellyfish based on our drawing explorations.
